The same movie that my screenname is based off.
Dominator was originally a black-and-white comic strip for the magazine Metal Hammer, but during 1993 Tony Luke and Alan Grant were asked by Kodansha to do a revamped version that was actually a full-colour manga, it did well in Japan but is incredibly rare, mostly because I think it ran for just a year. Rather than a long number of years like other mangas/animes *coughcough*dragonball*coughcough*
During 2003, Tony and Alan created the movie on a budget with an Apple Mac, and was actually very successful in Britain. It is really Britain's first feature length CGI movie. Starring in the film is Cradle of Filth's Dani Filth, Doug Bradley, Ingrid Pitt, Alex Cox, the hilarious duo Mark & Lard (AKA Mark Radcliffe and Marc Riley), Liza Goddard (believe it or not - she's the direcotr's cousin (if you even know who she is)), Sarn Synthetic from the German band (I think it's German) Synthetic, Robert Rankin who performs the opening sequence narration and the shrieking wails of Dominator's demonic familar Shagg, and a few other people.
Dr. Payne and his "mute" (talk about errors) assistant Sidney work at the Happy Passage Funeral Home and are in charge of making sure the dead are dead and stay dead. But every once in a while, there's the occasional re-animation as a ghoulish zombie thanks to the work of some Hellish incursions. One night, Dr. Payne's three daughters, Tara, Molly & Fina, who play in the all-girl rockbandd Crowcut, sneak into their father's library and attempt to learn the legendary "Lost Chord" (this is a B-Movie that is centered around Rock and Heavy Metal so expect things to a them to them). However, the Lost Chord opens up a dimensional gateway. Back in Hell, Dominator is the kicking the asses of multiple skeletal warriors, but he, the horny Shagg (no pun intended) and some skeletons are sucked up by the gateway. When Dominator emerges he already decides to wreak some havoc by threatening Sidney and Shagg has his way with Molly's leg. Soon the skeletons come up from Hell, and to get rid of them Dominator goes over-the-top with destruction and nearly destroys the Payne mansion.
However, Dominator gets pissed off at Dr. Payne as he discovers he can't get back to Hell. Soon, Dominator's ex-girlfriend Lady Violator and Decimator & Extricator emerges from the Gateway, with news that she now works for Lord Desecrater who has taken over Hell. Dominator has no intentions of re-hooking up with Violator and runs away, but he is pursiud by the trio.
Unfortunately for Londoners, Dominator and his enemies end up destroying almost everything in some spectacular looking battles.
Basically, I think the film is great but because it's low-budget don't expect the animation to be like something out of Shrek. And you probably have to be a big fan of Metal to fully appreciate some aspects of this movie. Overall, an all-round good B-Movie with plenty of action, beer, comedy, sex and a bucket full of cussing.
The DVD is also very good, featuring a gallery that includes manga scans, rendered images, fan art and artwork by the original creator (Tony Luke), interviews and a cribs-style interview with Dani Filth, some music videos and weblinks.
