In case you haven't heard, which I'm sure most of you have, 4Kids has acquired the rights to the One Piece anime series. It is assumed that Funimation will be in charge of the DVD distribution, but we don't know for sure yet. How do you feel about this? EX has already given his views over on the regular Daizex boards, but what about the rest of you? Discuss. I'll throw my opinion in afterwards.

For the record, the press release (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/pressrelease.php?id=400) does NOT state that FUNimation will absolutely be handling the DVD release; on the other hand, it's a no-brainer, since FUNimation is essentially the official distributer for all things 4Kids.

Oops sorry about that mistake! I misread your post over on the Daizex forums. I just changed my post on top. Thanks for pointing that stupid mistake out to me EX. ^_^

How good is the One Piece anime in contrast to the manga? Was it butchered like DB/Z? If so, in a good way?

if what EX said is true uncut DVDs are good by me, but I still didnt know about uncut YGO and am very interested as Yu Gi Oh the manga is one of my favorates too.,
I was pissed to hear about it but EXs comments gave some gravity to it. Even without an uncut dub on DVD, I'll be happy to continue enjoying One Peice as I have for over a year, in the pages of Shonen Jump.

The anime is practically as good as the manga in my opinion Dayspring. As for my opinion of 4Kids getting the rights, I don't care what company has it, as long as an uncut subtitled version is offered. I'm hoping that since this series has such a huge fan following that maybe, just maybe 4Kids (or maybe Funi can do something about it? ), will actually notice that there are older fans, listen to them and offer one. All I can do is hope.

I doubt it. Their company name is "4Kids"...FOR Kids! If they acknowledged that, they'd probably use one of their companies w/a diff name.

Well, I'm hoping that they'll have Funimation do the DVD distribution and hopefully, they'll offer it. I'm praying that they'll remember how they angered DBZ fans so much at first and not want to repeat the same mistake.

When I first found it I was completely pissed. I guess mostly because I thought, "Great, another great anime for us to destory!!" Then I realized what was really bothering me, I was afraid of what Kaizoku-Fansubs might do... stop subbing it!!!! and they've been doing such a fantastic job. I'm also afraid to say that we need to start thinking that soon Naruto will follow suit and be dubbed...

I don't see Naruto being dubbed by 4Kids. Children in the (ninja)army beating and killing other children? Torture scenes, death scenes galore...More than your fair share of blood and too many "important" sexual innuendos to be edited out of the story. Unless it's dubbed in a better fashion than Inu Yashaa, I think if it's ever dubbed it'll be an unedited direct-to-DVD dub.

I agree with that, I'm just saying that it's gonna happen eventually. Do you think anyone else would pick up subbing One Piece if Kaizoku-Fansubs decide to drop it?

I don't download Kaizoku fansub stuff, but from the stuff my friends told me, that group won't stop fansubbing.
