It's one of my loves, so it makes enough sense that I'd blather about it for a bit. ;D
To those who aren't in the know, it is a "survival horror" series.
Silent Hill was released on the PS (though there was a 'Play Novel' released on the GBA).
Silent Hill 2 was released on the PS2 (in both a regular and 'Greatest Hits' version), the Xbox, and the PC.
Silent Hill 3 was released on the PS2 and the PC.
Silent Hill 4: The Room was released on the PS2, the Xbox, and the PC.
Now! Unlike, say, Resident Evil, Silent Hill is less about "zomg monsters crashing through windows". It's more along the lines of "what the hell is going on". No matter which game you play, things become far worse than a few random zombies milling about, or blood stains on the wall. No, you might see an ordinary city street changing into a metallic grate nightmare with mummified corpses stapled to the walls. You may see what was previously a normal hotel slowly becoming flooded with excessive water damage, where one door leads to another floor and one floor leads to another area entirely. You may see a church slowly flooding with viral, twitching, spasmatic blood. And, even worse, you may see what's behind all of this.
But, hey, that's enough from me for now... what about everyone else? Any thoughts on the good ol' SH series? I wasn't able to find any matches for it here, but I was hoping that there are some people who do share the interest...!

Never had the chance to play Silent Hill, but I'll look out for it. I recommend Eternal Darkness for the GCN. Blows Resident Evil out of the water.

The shame about SH is that it isn't on the Gamecube... depriving Nintendo fans of truly awesome survival horror.
But as far as ED goes, some of my friends have been bugging me to play that. It can't be too hard to blow RE out of the water, considering the best one (from what I've played) was the first...

I know there was a Silent Hill for Nintendo, some system. I'm thinking the GBA.
I'm not going to say that ED is better than Silent Hill, which I haven't played. But from your description, they seem to be at the same level.
ED is more like a really, really good horror movie. But instead of calling the girl an idiot for checking X room and not getting the hell out, then groaning when she gets Zombie'D, you're checking X room for logical reasons and getting the shit scared out of you when... okay, I'm not going to say it. EVERYBODY spoils that part. I'm the only one in the universe who played that part without advance notice.
It's not just that zombies jump out of closets. Your character has a sanity meter. It will make you insane, too. Like your memory card being deleted? Not really. Scared you though, eh? You'll travel through 5 rooms to find yourself walking on a ceiling, and then you'll be back on the floor 5 rooms ago, apparently walking into wall for the past minute. It never gets old.
Oh, gotta go. Seriously, play it.
4000th board post?! Cheese.

A friend of mine (Randy) got really freaked out by Silent Hill when he was younger. For a while, whenever I slept over, he wouldn't let me open the closet at night lol. I did it anyway
