With Naruto now kickin' ass and taking names on Cartoon Network, I've noticed that they've now got another timeslot during the Miguzi block. It's been like this for some time, but I just realized (when watching the Itachi flashback episode) that they'r showing a show rated PG-V during the dinner time time slot!
However, CN continues to show edited versions of DBZ on Toonami, the cartoon blockfollowing Miguzi.
What's the deal? How come Naruto is getting the royal treatment, while DBZ is still suffering from so much editing. (Minor Note: The dubbed episodes of Naruto are edited as well, but not by much, as you can see just by watching one episode.) Naruto seems to also be immune to all the "soccer moms" who would jump at DBZ any chance they got. Taking in mind all the toy commercials for Naruto, it's obvious that kids are a major audience of the show, so what's the deal with Naruto?
My guess is that nowadays, there are (sadly) younger and younger moms/parents in general that are more lax on what they let their kiddies watch. This could also apply to new parents in general (that don't necessarily have to be pregnant teens). But that still doesn't explain the edited DBZ episodes being aired. I mean, I remember hearing of the uncut episodes being aired during the Midnight Run block back in the day, so it can't be that CN just doesn't have access to those episodes.
Perhaps this is also connected with FUNimation's announcement that they've got One Piece, but still have to edit out Sanji's cigar into a lollipop (while there's plenty of smoking and drinking blatantly used in the Naruto episodes being aired)?

I personally think it's just laziness and apathy. It's simply easier and less of a hassle to stick with the current form of the eps they have and broadcast them.

Well, the thing is, Cartoon Network doesn't edit shows anymore. FUNi always did its own editing, but most other companies didn't edit their shows until CN got tired of doing the editing for them (like they did for Tenchi and Outlaw Star and such back in the day). I've always felt that FUNi usually overcompensated with their editing compared to a lot of other shows, but that's just my opinion.
In the end, maybe editing standards have loosened a bit since the days that DBZ was on Toonami. Either that, or maybe Cartoon Network didn't care enough to request an uncut or less edited version of DBZ.

I think it's because possibly CN doesn't have the access to them uncut stuff no more.
Although on the other hand, considering the season sets are out, it'd be strange if FUNimation was advertising 'WIDESCREEN IS TEH BEST DOTHACOKRSD!' and yet CN was broadcasting 4:3 DBZ. Perhaps this is to get people to buy the orange brick or just to set a tone of consistency.
