I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but are animes that are based off video games looked at differently than other anime? What I mean is for example, look at what people say about 4Kids for example. While we've all heard the bad things about what they did to Yu-Gi-Oh and Shaman King, I haven't heard any complaints about Pokemon, Kirby, and Sonic X (although the first two are kids shows and usually older anime fans don't care really about true kid shows). Any thoughts?

I don't really like the term "kid shows". Sonic X would be a kid show as well, but if you want to start talking about "true kid shows", that could only really apply to those educational puppet shows that teach kids how to count to 4. Or something. An adult can have fun with watching Pokemon or Kirby. I'm not an adult, and I know that.
So, you're saying video game based anime are treated better? Maybe. Of course, the Shaman King dub sucks, but Kirby? Did it even have a shit dub? Ehh.

That's because the video game shows you listed are aimed at an under 10 age group to begin with. The SJ anime were aimed at like 10+ crowd but edited here to be viewed by the same under 10 age group.

Dunno about Kirby (never seen the original), but Pocket Monsters was actually handled pretty well. The only complaints I have about it are the gratitious culture-cuts ("doughnuts" *shudder*) and the fact that I can't stand Veronica Taylor. I don't think the fact that it was based off of a video game made it any better, though -- I agree that they have to be handled differently, but isn't that mostly just to make sure they're consistent with the English-language version of the game? I mean, imagine the kiddies' surprise when they boot up their TVs in the morning, eagerly clutching their Gameboys to their little hearts, and they see this "Satoshi" kid talking about "Hitokage, Fushigidane, Zenigame!!" So yeah, games-to-anime have to be handled differently, but I think that 4Kids just did a good job on PM, rather than it having anything to do with its origins. And to totally bust apart that theory, I offer you two words: Digimon Adventure. You watch that dub and then tell me Saban did a good job on it. ...you know, there are probably more older fans of PM now than kids fans (in America, at least), since it's no longer "trendy" and the only ones left watching it are the diehard fans, like...well, not like me, because I always preferred the games, but I can list at least five people, right off the top of my head, in the late-teens early-twenties range who really like it. But my point is, even though it may be aimed for kids, doesn't mean older people won't watch it. That's sort of like saying, "Harry Potter is a kid's book, and usually adults don't read kid's books, so logically no adults will read Harry Potter." And that was so much longer than it needed to be.

I don't have any problems with Pokemon's dub. However, I did once see a "Pokemon uncensored!" type of site where it listed all the errors and censors of the dub in great detail. The first episode alone was too much for me to read.

I can't really tell if Sonic X was a kid show so that's why I just made reference to the first two. I like the Pokemon dub as well. Another theory I have on changes with that show is that Nintendo has a lot of input for the dub, like how Warner Bros. did for the first 3 movies. I saw a Pokemon uncensored site and before that I didn't know about the lady writing an essay that ended up with the Christmas episode being banned. After talking about it to some of my friends and relatives, we were wondering what that lady was smoking to find Jynx offensive. I mean I'm African-American and I didn't see anything wrong with it.

The first two seasons or so of Pokemon were very heavy on the digital paint and changes, but after that it pretty much coasted to a stop -- very little, aside from names and two-second time cuts, is changed in the Jouto seasons. It picks up a little again in Advance, but yeah, in general the dub is pretty good. Still convinced that Outlaw Star is the best TV dub ever, though. By chance, are the site you two are referring to Dogasu's Backpack? Great site, that. Super-nice guy. ;D I can sort of see how people can find Ruujura/Jynx to be racist -- if you tilt your head to the side, poke yourself in the eye and squint reeeeally hard -- but taking it that far is ridiculous. Whatever that lady was smoking, I want some of it, 'cause that's some goood crack.

Also what you said about Saban also reminded me of some weird things that company does. For example, you know when they did DBZ they eliminated all references of death? That was the only show they did that on. For example, most of the anime that used to be on Nickelodeon before 93 they did kept death references on. Same with X-Men. There was killing on Digimon, and there was hardly any episodes of Power Rangers where there was no killing. Yeah, I don't differentiate between killing a monster, and killing a person. Oh well they did off one ranger though.

Which Ranger?
Oh and they did kill Zordon in the last ep of PR in Space. That was the best English series after Mighty Morphing.

Which Ranger? Oh and they did kill Zordon in the last ep of PR in Space. That was the best English series after Mighty Morphing. Kendrix, the Pink Lost Galaxy Ranger was the first, and so far only power ranger to fall in the line of duty by sacrificing herself to save her friends. There were other reasons as well. The actress who played her was diagnosed with leukemia and had to leave the show for treatment. Out of support they kept her credited in the opening credits. And also depending on how you look at it as either the company showing support for her beating it, or they just wimped out, she was brought back from the dead in the final episode.

In retrospect every main character that was ever killed off in Dragonball was brought back to life too...
