This fanfiction takes place years before the fanmanga takes over.
Prelude:
Long ago, many great battles emerged on earth. When the wars begun, one powerful human-like man always stood up against the evil heathens. In the Great Reset (when Japan reset its knowledge for the good of man), the records of the man’s name perished, and he disappeared into the sky. Many recall he possessed powers of an enormous ape, or even what many call a “superman”. With him, he took seven glowing balls, which withheld mystical powers that to this day, lie unknown to man.

In the year 737 A.D., in the era of Lord Freeza’s reign, a rogue warrior of the planet Vegeta stood up against the monster, and died as his infant son launched into space. This son, known as a Saiyan, launched towards an uncharted region of the universe at mach speeds. His goal: conquer the planet he lands on and spread the Saiyan race. The boy’s father, dubbed Bardock, had a lifetime friend, whom he spent all his free time with. Bardock told his friend, Tomatt, that when both of them were blessed with sons of their own, they would precede to see to it that they launch in the same region of space. On the day of Vegeta’s destruction, Bardock’s second son, Kakarot, and Tomatt’s first born, Kenkarot (they also made a pact to similarly name the boys), sped towards their new home as their fathers died.
Halfway through the journey, Kenkarot’s ship accelerated to speeds faster than Kakarot’s. As though fate decided the course of Kenkarot, his ship passed Kakarot’s and left its radar. Eventually, these growing speeds broke the speed of light and he disappeared from space altogether.

When the technological advances of Japan proved too overbearing to themselves in the year 1000 A.D., they simply found it best to “wish” it away. With the hero of Earth’s aid, they used the magical seven balls to change the world, even history at that. When the Great Hero left his beloved planet, he told the people that he would always be watching over them. However, the community lost faith as the Americans bombed Japan, and the “hero” didn’t show up to help. With all faith lost, the Japanese simply looked at the hero as a legend, and went about their lives.

High above Earth lied a gigantic platform scattered with flowers, trees, and gardens, with a bowl-shaped bottom. On this platform the Guardian of Earth, or Kami, lived looking over his people, sighing at the death and destruction taking place. Also here a man by the name of Goku, a spry, well-fit, energetic optimist. Kami and Goku differed greatly in looks; Kami was an old, green, shriveled, tall man with antennae and a staff, Goku appeared much younger, had wild black hair, and wore orange training clothes with a brown tail popping from the back. The two of them were once accompanied by another person, called Mr. Popo. Unfortunately, he met his end in the last years before the Great Reset, and asked not to be revived (by using the legendary seven mystical balls), as he had lived a long life and wished to rest.
For almost 2000 years the two men lived together, sharing stories, sometimes training, and looking over Goku’s various students. Yes, Goku was a grand teacher. Over the years, he trained many students, some great warriors, other failures. One of his students, Gren, was an overly skilled samurai, and almost brought the powerful Goku to his death. After that, Goku swore off teaching anymore students. Well, that was what he thought at least…
Chapter 1: Goku’s Next Task
High above Earth, Goku watered the plants while Kami meditated at the edge of the platform. As the water gushed out of the watering can, Goku silently thought of how exciting life used to be, back when he was fighting alongside his son and rival for the sake of the universe; and how boring life is now that all that is gone. Sure, Goku knew that somewhere out there lied enemies who could possibly surpass himself in power, but going in alone to fight them and relying on the chance of attaining another level of “Super Saiyan” (a term used when one of Goku’s race, a Saiyan, reached certain peaks of power) was too much of a risk to take. There were no others who could even match a fifth of Goku’s power, none except Gren.
Kami shocked Goku out of his dreamy state with a snap. “Goku! Goku! Do you sense that?!” inquired the old man. “Something’s going to land on Earth! A spaceship!”
Goku instantly became serious, and focused his senses to pinpoint the ship. “Strange, I feel it coming, Dende, but I don’t sense a great power from it,” Goku noticed. “Also, the spaceship seems kinda small… I’d say about the size of a Saiyan Pod-” Suddenly, Goku felt a deep mystification brewing within. “Dende,” Goku called his dear friend. “I’m going to check it out.”
Goku leapt off the platform for the first time in years and sped towards the falling ship. As he drew nearer to the speeding craft, his vision cleared and he confirmed the sighting. “This is definitely a Saiyan machine.” On the front of the grayish spherical ship shone a reddish window, which the person inside would use to look out. Around the window was a baseball sew-shaped door.
Rather than letting the ship crash into the ground and draw attention, Goku decided to catch it and bring it back to Kami’s Palace in the sky. He landed with it in hand and set it before Kami, who proceeded to pry the door open hastily with his staff. “Come on, let’s see what’s inside,” Kami uttered with a scratchy voice. The door finally gave way and inside laid a baby already crying. Goku reached in slowly and pulled the baby out and held him at arm’s length. The baby had shiny brown hair, pale skin, and a tail like that of Goku’s.
“Yup, this is a Saiyan all right,” said Goku, somehow happily. “I don’t have any idea how he got here, and even then, from where?” He peeked around the baby to the ship. “Hey, let’s see if he has a name.”
As he drew closer, the pod spoke in a deep, solemn voice: “Wake up, son, wake up. This is your father’s voice. Son, you are a Saiyan from the planet Vegeta. The Saiyans are a warrior race with unimaginable hidden power. Do not forget your heritage son, there are others out there in the universe like you. Shall you ever find trouble on your new planet that you cannot handle, try to find one of your brethren and consult in him. I see great things in your future son, I see great things. Son, conquer this planet in the name of Vegeta, don’t let anything stand in your way. Goodbye, Kenkarot, my son.”
Kami began to breathe heavily. He looked up, astounded, at Goku. “G… Goku… did he say Kenkarot?” He muttered shakily.
Goku didn’t respond. Instead, he took the baby into the palace and brought him out with a diaper on. “Sorry, this kid needed a diaper badly. WHOOWHEE!”
“Goku, don’t fool around right now.” Goku sat the baby on top of his pod, and Kami drew closer to inspect the boy. “Stand back, I’m going to read his mind to find some traces of his origin.” He flung his right hand out and placed it on the Saiyan’s head, even though the baby bawled at his sight. Kami looked through his mind, left and right flew images of the inside of the pod, and an image of Goku flying to catch the pod. As he attempted to move further back, a loud shock went into Kami and he fell limply to the ground.
“Dende!” Goku shouted alarmingly. He crouched down easily to his friend and helped him up. “Dende, what happened?”
“Something- something is keeping me from discovering his past.” He said with a gasp.
“Well, maybe we better just accept the fact that he’s a Saiyan, and he’s here. Is there anything more we can do?”
“Who will take care of him? He didn’t fall on his head like you Goku, he will still be instinctively violent.”
“We can drop him on his head! If I stand over the edge and let him go, I’m sure he’ll catch a bruisi-”
“Goku, I don’t care if he is a Saiyan,” Kami said demandingly. “He’s a baby, and he won’t survive a fall like that!”
“Sheesh! Calm down Dende! I was only joking!” Goku looked down at the baby that shared his race. “He needs a home, and he’s too dangerous for any earthling to handle… I know, I can take care of him!” Picking up the boy and swinging him around, he said “I’ll train him, like a son! It’ll be a big project, but I’m up to the task!”
“You, Goku, training a student again? Since Gre-”
“I’m not looking at him as a student, Dende,” Goku’s tone quickly shifted. “I’m looking at him as a son. This boy is a Saiyan, like me. How can it be so difficult to see me having a son again?”
“Well, Goku, you are over 1200 years old…”
“That’s what happens when you are an immortal. What was this boy’s name again?”
“His name is Kenkarot. I prefer you give him an Earth name such as Takokujin, maybe Yamazaru.”
“No, his name shall forever be Son Kenkarot. How does that sound?”
Kami realized that Goku saw something special in the Saiyan. For awhile, Goku looked for something fulfilling to accomplish, but nothing was ever within his grasp, even for someone with his power. Now that this boy appeared, Goku found meaning in his life again. Kami dared not deny any decision Goku would make in the future of his new adopted son. Caringly, Kami said “It sounds great, Goku.”
With that, Goku began a new era of Earth, one that would change the world.
