"Manga Outsells American Comics at Mainstream Level
According to this week's Bookscan list of best selling graphic novels in American bookstores, translated manga accounted for 47 out of the 50 top selling volumes. The 37 best selling graphic novels in America this week were all English translated Japanese comics."

Does this really shock anyone?
As far as graphic novels go of course manga is going to outsell the comic book compendiums, the only way to get first run material so to speak, for the majority of the U.S. manga market is to buy graphic novels where for the comic book fan most of the graphic novel style releases are simply volumes of previously run material.
